What is the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)?

The AIP is a pathway to permanent residence for skilled workers and international graduates who want to live and work in one of Canada’s four Atlantic provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island (PEI).

To hire under this program, employers must become designated by the province. This means they have been authorized by the provincial government to recruit foreign workers through the AIP.

Key Features of the AIP:

  • Employer-driven: Candidates must have a job offer from a designated employer.

  • Settlement-focused: Employers must assist with settlement plans for newcomers.

  • Streamlined process: The program provides a faster and more efficient pathway to PR.

What is a Designated Employer?

A Designated Employer is a business or organization in an Atlantic province that has received approval from the provincial government to participate in the AIP. Designation is not a guarantee of employment and being listed as a designated employer does not mean the employer is actively hiring.

To find a job with a designated employer, candidates should monitor job postings and apply directly to listed vacancies. Employers must follow a separate endorsement process once a job offer is made.
